William B. Mitchell relocated to Winona, Minnesota shortly after passing the American Bar Association. In 1859 Mitchell was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives for one term. In 1900, William B. Mitchell was selected as the first dean of newly founded St. Paul College of Law which later became know as William Mitchell Law School and now Mitchell / Hamline School of Law.
